Personal History:
For the most part, Satoru's history pretty much plays out as it would in the canon of the Kanto region Pokemon games (RBGY & FRLG) as the rival Blue with some differences separating from canon sources. One such difference is that Agatha is not only an Elite 4 member as she is in the games, but is also his grandmother married to Professor Ōkido (Oak). He is the younger brother to Nanami Ōkido (Daisy Oak) and elder cousin to Shin Ōkido (LGPE's rival Trace). Another such difference is that pokemon trainers do not start out their journeys at the age of ten, but at the ages of thirteen or fourteen, of which his began at the latter when he was almost fifteen. Satoru is also the one that gave Eva the nickname of Leaf as well as set her trainer card as his official rival.
Before the start of his journey, Satoru teases Eva about bulbasaur and has that backfire in his face when she chooses squirtle prompting him to take the bulbasaur, and then proceeds to wipe the floor with her in their very first battle as rivals. After defeating her, rather smugly at that, he then sets off on his journey and finds a very small and young female shiny pidgey who he immediately catches & takes in and begins to care for her. During this time, very little in terms of eventfulness happens and battles go between losses and wins as he trains and then defeats Brock, afterwards making his way mostly uneventfully through Mt. Moon and on his way to Cerulean.
It is then in Cerulean that Eva and Satoru have their first brush with the Rockets when the pair of rookies are unwittingly caught up in a police sting on Nugget Bridge, a popular battle spot the Rockets had been using to recruit strong trainers. The pair manage to keep the ringleader distracted enough for the police to arrest him, then go their separate ways, with Satoru making a quip that Eva should go see Bill for a surprise since he got to see the man's rare pokemon.
It's then in Vermillion that Satoru faces a crushing loss in the accidental death of his raticate in a battle against Eva aboard the St Anne. Pokemon death isn't impossible and they do happen, but not even the knowledge of this being A Thing prepared him for such a painful loss. It also makes him rethink a few things in terms of how he trains, determined to be stronger than before so this doesn't happen again. After making it to Celadon City, Satoru winds up being caught up in police raids on the Game Corner there, unknown to Eva until later as the two were in Celadon together for their gym challenge. The Silph scope is recovered by Satoru, while caught up in the raid, and a number of Rocket scientists are arrested.
The next time Satoru runs into the Rockets, it's while paying his respects to his raticate in Lavender, a town famous for its 'Pokemon Tower'. He's amongst those held hostage as the Rockets are hunting the rare cubone and marowak that make their home in the tower. Other hostages include Mr Fuji, Will, and Eva. It's not a pleasant time as a man is killed when he tries to fight back. The Rockets are, after several days, dealt with via Lance, Agatha and those hostages who can fight back, with Eva and Satoru defending Mr Fuji. As a thank you for their efforts, Eva and Satoru each receive a pokeflute, then allowing the two of them passage onto the main road to Fuchsia City. After a trip to Saffron, that is. It is during a break before their trek to Saffron that Satoru tells Eva he had been caught up in police raids of the Celadon Game Corner.
While the two of them are there in Saffron for their gym challenge, they become entangled in yet another fight with the Rockets there who have taken over Silph Co, yet again as hostages in the situation. While the two of them are able to fight back, they don't successfully do enough against them, as two teenagers against a criminal organization are about as useful as a spoon trying to do a fork's job. It's not until Koga, Agatha, and Sabrina storm the building with the police that things start to get better. While the adults head up to prevent Giovanni from obtaining the prototype master ball, he does get away with the plans. He does not, however, get away with the master ball itself.
From there, the events play out as per usual with game canon with Satoru doing the rest of his gym challenge up to Cinnabar and capturing all the pokemon he's able to as well as putting his nose to the grind for training. The events thus far have shown him that he needs to work harder to become stronger and he's nowhere near strong enough as he sees himself now. This also serves as a useful, as well as helpful, distraction for the events he's been thrust into thus far. His strictness in his training methods earns him concerned remarks from family and outsiders about being unfair and cruel to his teammates, even disgusted remarks of outright abuse towards them, but what they don't see is that he never pushes them to the point of abuse or past their limits in any one session and always allows and makes them rest after each one. He is strict, but he is never one to take things too far, a lesson drilled into him by his grandmother. As well as the loss of his raticate.
Reuniting in Cinnabar with Eva, Satoru ends up finding hidden labs beneath the long since abandoned mansion there and calls the authorities due to the bizarre and questionable nature of the labs there. It is unknown what all was studied there, although Eva had notes about Mew. Satoru challenges Blaine after this, netting him his 7th badge and then the events play out closer to game canon once more with the duo gaining their 8th badges before a raid on the gym happens as that happened to be where Rocket Boss Giovanni was hiding (and in fact, its gym leader), injuring the both of them as he got away in the chaos. Satoru battles his way through Victory Road, losing to Eva in the process, but decimates his way through the Elite Four and becomes Champion. But, as is the same as canon, his seat of Champion is not held for very long as Eva makes her way through not long after and usurps his throne while Professor Oak chastises him for being too harsh with his pokemon and not having a strong enough bond. It's an observation that is easy to make, but false, as he's never pushed any of his team past their limits, only to the edge of them. But it does make him let up just a bit in his training, because having a reputation as an abuser is no better than being a Rocket in his eyes.
Although not there for the worst of things, Satoru followed Eva a couple days later into Cerulean Cave after not hearing from her after some time only to find dead bodies and blood trails with Eva in the center of it all, thankfully alive, but in severe shock. His immediate thought is to get her out and to safety, and checked out by a doctor. He would later learn that Eva went through a very traumatic event of capturing the female mewtwo, which she names Fluffy, as well as also learn many months later that she is breaking laws in keeping the first known sapient pokemon in centuries alive. This is also when he learns that she made off with the master ball instead of Giovanni, who hadn't taken it.
Sometime after this, he is awarded the title of Viridian City's gym leader in place of Giovanni. A role he takes on with seriousness, as well as extreme pride in this accomplishment as proof that the circumstances of his birth as a boy are irrelevant and that he can stand toe to toe with other women, just like all the other men who are gym leaders and even Champions of their respective regions. This is a title he holds for roughly five years, challenging trainers of all kinds and commending them on their skills or quipping that they should work a little harder on bonding with their partners before challenging him once more, before handing the title over to Niko Shinoda so that he has more time to travel and help out with the Ōkido Ranch. It is during this time that Satoru's bias and fear against dark type pokemon is put aside, letting one of his eevee at the ranch become an umbreon due to being a possible safety against Fluffy due to the type being immune to psychic types.
Otherwise, things are quiet for Satoru as the years tick on, though both he and Eva are invited to various regional and inter-regional tournaments, including the Unovan World Tournament where they meet other prodigies, who like them, have been involved or near the center of things involving the various Criminal Teams over the years. Along with this, he comes to date, break up with, and then date again, Eva.
Years later, nearly ten since the beginnings of their journey, both he and Eva take a holiday to the Alola region. Eva becomes the head and owner of the Battle Tree, while Satoru is her loyal and willing right-hand of the facility as its admin. Peace and quiet are to be had for the most part for a while, battling to their hearts' content against various challengers, as well as putting on spectacular shows against one another to show their strengths and skills. However, peace does not last long, and before too long, the two go to Galar and are swept up in the raging chaos that unfolds there.
Namely against what is arguably worse than anything faced so far, as they're pitted against Eternatus. This is a battle where no one gets out without injury, or even casualty in some cases. To put it bluntly, it's hell and there are, for every ten people, twenty one different versions of what happened that day.
This is particularly traumatic for everyone, including Satoru who witnessed a sacrifice from an eevee he had been training in hopes of her becoming a glaceon as she threw herself in harm's way to save her trainer as they were swept by Eternatus' tail into a building which collapsed around him and some others, dying (eevee, not him) in the process and becoming an incredibly rare ghost typed evolution. This, coupled with the fact that the entire battle separating Satoru from the others and getting injured in the process, scars him deeply and he loses his willpower to go on in the moment before returning the pokemon into a pokeball and struggles to find an escape from the caved in building on top of him while injured himself, remembering that he still has Eva and others to go find and try to help fight this nightmarish monster regardless of how hurt he is. (A broken arm, concussion, possibly fractured ribs, sprained ankle.) When he's found later, Satoru is both unusually silent and ghost-white as if he experienced the worst kind of horror, and refuses to say anything about it in the moment, only hugging Eva tightly despite the amount of pain he's in both physically and emotionally.
Personality:
✯ Cocky/Overconfident: Much like his game counterpart, Satoru has an arrogance streak in his youth, which carries over into adulthood although has mellowed.
✯ Competitive: All through his youth and still into his adulthood, as a career trainer, Satoru has an incredibly high competitive streak to him. Especially towards his rival, Eva. The two have been trying to one-up one another since their journey began.
✯ Strict: Primarily towards his pokemon, Satoru has a very strict attitude towards training. This has gotten him chastised and worried comments that he’s overdoing it with them, although he is never too strict to pass into abusive or ignoring when his team is exhausted.
✯ Prideful: Satoru's pride at being the best he can and strongest he can has given him a bit of an ego over the accomplishments he has achieved, especially in a world where boys are not quite at the same level as women where he's from. He takes great pride in what he's managed without using any of his status, or sometimes lack thereof. He won't let anyone forget that he was Champion of the Indigo League, even if it was just for a few days. The same goes for having been a gym leader in Viridian for a few years. This pride, coupled with his strictness, has led many to believe that he's cold and unloving to his Pokemon when that couldn't be any further from the truth, he just doesn't show it as often publicly.
✯ Stubborn: Possessing a strong stubborn streak, Satoru won’t back down from most things, even if he knows he may lose. To him, he’s lost if he doesn’t even try to defy the odds because the outcome is never set in stone. It’s better to do his best and lose knowing he and his team did their very best, than do the easy thing and give up. This can come back to bite him in the behind, however, such as times where it affects his pride. His stubbornness can be one of his greatest strengths in the form of courage to overcome all odds, yet it can also land him into deep trouble as he has difficulty expressing vulnerability publicly due to his stubbornness to prove that boys are just as good as girls.
✯ Compassionate: While outwardly bratty and seemingly cruel, Satoru cares deeply for his pokemon and would never push them past the limits of exhaustion or intentional injury. He was less compassionate in his youth, but has grown to be much more loving to them. He's always cared, in secret, for his team and rewards them for a job well done and takes breaks when necessary for his team.
✯ Courageous: Bordering on reckless on varying occasions, Satoru is willing to overcome his fears in situations that can be and often ARE fraught with danger, even if he knows that he could and likely will be injured in the process. Especially in his adult years, and especially for Eva's sake because he knows she can be more reckless than he is. Often too reckless if you ask him.
✯ Sarcastic/Teasing: Growing up around Eva and others, Satoru gained something of a sarcastic streak that never did go away, and barely lessened into adulthood although it's something he does have more self-awareness about. Mostly he aims his sarcasm and teases towards Eva to get under her skin, especially if he's deflecting something or just being especially bratty that day.
Key themes:
✯ Courage: A sense of pride, stubbornness, and unwillingness to back down from hardships combine themselves to face his fears and doubts with the resolve to defeat what scares him. Especially if it concerns who and what he cares about.
✯ Proving himself: Born into a society dominated by women, Satoru has always been trying to prove he’s just as good as the ladies.
✯ Strength: Being as strong as he can, be that mentally or physically in terms of bonds, is something he strives for.
Main Motivation:
Satoru's main motivation and goals are and have been to defy a fate set upon him at birth. Born into a world dominated by women, to a noble family at that, he strives to prove that as a boy he can be just as good and strong as the women. As well as stand equally by their sides.
Skills:
✯ Pokemon Trainer: Monster taming and battling (see item)
✯ Strategist: Being a Pokemon trainer and from that world, he has years of forming battle strategies as well as the know-how to act in dangerous situations.
✯ Intelligence: Born into a wealthy family, despite being male, he was taught a great many things due to his grandfather being a renowned professor and his grandmother being a fearsome elite 4 member. He may not always act on this intelligence and seem like a dumb boy, but he is far smarter than he lets on.
✯ Niche webcomic knowledge: Odd as this may sound as a skill, Satoru is a nerd and has knowledge of many nerd-centric things.
✯ Pokemon knowledge: Having made a goal to catch every pokemon, he also has knowledge on them thanks to that and Professor Oak being his grandfather.
✯ Languages: Having traveled to many regions coupled with his upbringing, Satoru can fluently speak the languages of Yamatai (Japanese), Kalosian (French), most Alolan (Hawaiian), and some pieces of Unovan (German in this AU). He is also able to use Sign Language, but is not very good at it but knows enough to get by.
✯ Survival knowledge: The Pokemon world is perilous, and as such one must know how to survive or their careers as trainers will be cut unfortunately short. (Camping, knot tying, fishing, etc..)
✯ Organization & Administration: Satoru is the Admin of the Battle Tree in Alola and as such deals with the paperwork, filing, and most of the technical side of things in the facility with various staff answering to him.
✯ Basic Self-Defense: Satoru is trained in martial arts due to being in a Kazoku family and needing self-defense and anti-kidnapping skills.
